Unsupervised Lesson 26 Feb

You need to complete watching Inception.  It is in Student Resources on the Macs and headphones are in the back room.

Once you have watched the film it is time to do some research around it.  I want you to focus on the debate surrounding the ending of the film.  There are two clear 'sides' - It is real and Cob is reunited with his children and it is not real and cob in in the dreamworld and will not wake up.  It all comes down to the spinning top!



I want you to come to the next lesson with EVIDENCE of your research and to have decided fro yourself what you think the ending means.  Be prepare to argue your position!

5th February Unsupervised Lesson

You need to watch 'Supernatural - The French Mistake'.  You will find it in Student Resources in the Pomo section.  Just watch the first episode.



As you are watching it think about how it might be considered post modern.

Once you have watched it you will need to do some research around the series which has a very strong cult following.
You will need to find out about the two lead actors  -

   J  

Look into their careers (what else they have done) and their personal lives (who they are married to etc). Think about how this is referenced in the episode.

Find out about the production crew - directors, producers, company that made it etc. Again think about how this information is referenced in the episode.

Read some reviews like this one and this one and this one which also talks about the post modern aspects.  Try find some other as well - some written by 'professional' reviewers and other more fan based one.

I will expect you to produce evidence of research.  This could be a Word document where you have summarised you finding or things printed off from the internet that have been highlighted and annotated!

Unsupervised Lesson 8 Jan

Hi guys

You need to be working on your Evaluations today.  I want to see a blog post outlining the work you have done today.  Maybe do it as a video blog as I have not seem your lovely faces this week!
 Remember that you should be scripting and planning what you are going to say in your evaluations - this also includes what technologies you will be using, why and how.
Some of your also still need to watch past evaluations and comment on them!

Unsupervised Lesson 27 November

By the end of today you need to have handed in draft versions of your music video and axillary texts.
Please publish your draft videos on your blogs.  If you have produced a website there should be a link on your blog to it.  If you can also make sure that your dig pack and magazine adverts are on the blog too but Miss Trimnell might also need a printed version as well.
Please make sure that the work is clearly labeled!  If you have individual blogs the work needs to on them all.
Miss Trimnell will be following any missing work next week!

Work for Friday 2 Oct

Task One - Self Assessment of Research and Planning.

On the teacher desk you will find a copy of the Marking Criteria for Research and Planning.  Using this and the Blog Checklist (also on the teachers desk).  You need to look over you blog, tick off the jobs that you have done and give yourself a mark based on the marking criteria.  You are to do a post on your blog where you record the mark you have given yourself (and be honest because you know I will....) and justify that mark.  You can talk about the tasks you have done, how well you have done then but also consider what you have not done (but should have) and how you are going to improve. Remember that I am marking your research and planning soon so if you know there are jobs to do make sure they are done by next Friday.  The storyboard will be the focus after Friday but researching should be mostly complete!

Task Two - Axillary Text Research

As you are aware you need to product two axillary texts this year.  You get to choose from website, digipack and magazine advert.  As your second task you need to look at examples of past student axillary work. For each of the three possibilities I want you to find and look at least two examples. Obviously you will find examples on the old blogs and you can also look at examples from other school. When you are looking at these examples you need to consider the following:
  • What conventions do you see (what elements do all website has in common for example)?
  • How have colour, images, font (style and size), logo, etc been used? Are they used effectively?
  • What is the layout like? Is it effectively
  • What do you like?
  • What do you think does not work?
Again this needs to be done as a post on your blog

I have also left comments on your blogs about your final idea.  Please read carefully what I have written and consider it well.

Unsupervised Session 25 Sept

For today I would like you to start looking at a range of past student work!

Above you can see the marking scheme that we use.

I want you to look at at least three examples of music videos made by students.  For each one you should discuss the strengths and weaknesses, any interesting things that you might consider using, what 'mistakes' you are going to avoid and then give them a mark based on the mark scheme.  At the bottom of this blog you will find all the blogs of past TCC students but you can also look at examples from others school.
Make sure you have a detailed record of each video you look at.  Try to use technology to make the post interesting ( and don't forget about spelling, punctuation, grammar and layout).

Today you need to make sure that all they work you did over summer is on the blogs and that you are ready to present your three possible ideas to the class in the next lesson.  Please make sure that you have included a way of gathering audience feedback from the class.

Unsupervised Lesson 30 May



As a class you need watch the second episode of Black Mirror – ‘15 Million Merits’. (It is available on 40D). Once you have watched it you to individually make notes about its postmodern features.  Link it to as many of our Theorists as possible, think about the Media Concept and the massive check list you were given.  You need to talk about specific aspects of Post modernism and give a detailed and specific example from the programme. You need to make detailed notes!!!

Answer the following questions
1.       In what ways is Black Mirror Post  Modern?
2.       How is it not so Post Modern?
3.       What is this TV programme say about the ‘post modern’ world’? Is it a good place? Would you want to life there? What roles did the media play in creating this world?

This work will need to be handed in to Miss Hill in the next Media lesson (Thursday????)

Unsupervised Lesson 5th March

Today you need to start by watching an episode of the TV programme Supernatural.  I have set up the DVD so it is ready to go.  We will be analysing this programme in the next class (Thursday) so you MUST watch it today.
Once you have finished watching Supernatural you need to read through the rest of the powerpoint on Lyotard that we started on Friday.  It is on the blog and in the Student Resources Drive on the Macs.  You will need to complete two charts and answer the questions in the powerpoint and hand these in.  I will be in room 48 waiting for your work so you could just directly print it to there (but make sure your name is on your work).

If you do not hand the work in I will assume that you are truant from the class! If you are away you will still need to catch up with the work.
